There are four difficulty settings in the game.
'Easy', 'Moderate' (default), 'Hard', 'Extreme', getting progressively harder.
The ghosts are not dangerous in themselves on 'Easy', but they
still pose a nuisance.
Some enemies who pack heavy weapons may sometimes accidentally blow themselves out. This happens more often on lower difficulty settings than on higher ones.
Some enemies and dangerous obstacles can only be destroyed
with one or another particular weapon. Destroyed enemies and
obstacles no longer block the path.
Certain enemies will, when attacked with the wrong weapon, appear to be destroyed for a short interval, during which they still block the path, before re- assembling. After being destroyed they no longer block the path.
There are items that give you special powers, or increase your health, and other usefull items. But some items harm or kill you, or make you lose certain types, or all types, of ammunition.
