Ghosts Special III

Ghosts Special III consists of a big mansion with park south of it. This level does not utilize the elevator feature of A Doll's House, but some parts are still meant to be on different floors from the main floor. There is an attic section in the northwest, a basement section in the northeast and more specifically an upstairs bedroom section with its own veranda where you find the exit, in the lower middle part of the level. These sections are in some cases accessed through meandering corridors meant to seem like staircases. However, it is not necessary to experience these parts as such in order to navigate and familiarize oneself with the level. There are passages blocked by bombs connected to the bedroom section, increasing the possibility of enemies coming at you unexpectedly.

START POSITION – Take out the gunslinger coming through the door to the west with your knife. Then take the health chalice if you need it.

There are two separated routes you now must take armed only with a knife, to aquire two items needed to progress further. You can take these routes in what order you want.
You must avoid entering rooms with enemies you are not able to handle at this stage.

The eastern route:

Enter this hallway. Finish with the brown cloak hiding in the niche. Don't take the 1-up ahead, an armour will notice you.

Enter this door through any of its doors. Pick up the health found behind the secret door marked by a painting.

Continue through the door to the adjoining room and further into the hallway to the south. Find more health plus ammo behind another secret door marked by a painting.

Then enter the red hallway. Find more health but don't disturb the armour. Open a third secret door marked by a painting, bring down the gunslinger hiding in ambush and take the silver key.

Retrace your steps back to the opening room.

The western route:

Make it into this hallway. Don't disturb the armour. Find a health chalice.

You may want to you explore the two rooms to the west for more health chalices.

Enter this hallway. Do not alert the armour in the niche ahead to the right. Break the mirror and take the cross beyond it.
If you took this route after the eastern route (like in this description) you ought to save the health chalice behind the nearby secret door since your next step involves taking a 1-up.

Retrace your steps back to the opening room.

Go through this door. Take the 1-up ahead. Open the secret door to the left and take the revolver.

Get noticed by the black cloak and the pirate. Step back around the corner and kill them with as few shots as possible by blowing up the barrels. Collect their weapons.

Quickly bring down the gunslinger in this room for more health chalices if you need to, but don't linger in this section!
Many enemies in different areas have now been alarmed and are coming after you. Get out of the basement before you get trapped!

Back in the opening room you may now choose whatever path you want. Enemies may come through the door right ahead in which case the armour beyond it will notice you.
In any case you will have to bring down an armour nearby to aquire an axe as soon as possible. You need it to take on the ghosts that are now tracking you down. And from now on it's...

Everywhere you go all kinds of enemies may come at you from all kinds of rooms so switch quickly between all kinds of weapons!

Avoid entering the central library at this stage. The Reptile awaits within.

Take what health (1-ups and chalices) and different types ammo you need where you find them.

When you have just about cleaned out the areas you have access to so far, start looking for items needed to progress.
