The House. Walkthrough.



Several of the puzzles in The House may be solved in no particular order.

This walkthrough guides you through the shortest way.



You start in a little room at the entrance to the house.
Behind you is the door leading out. It is locked, this is the level exit.
Pick up the 'Extra life' powerup found above your head.

Open the door ahead and enter the hall.
Destroy the three robots in the hall. Pick up the laser boost at the far end.

The hall has several doors.
At the near left is the door to the kitchen, unlocked.
At the far left is the door to the study, locked.
At the far end is the door to the veranda, locked.
At the far right is the door to the living room, locked.
At the near right is the door to the dining room, unlocked.
In addition there are two doors in the ceiling leading upstairs.
One near the entrance, the other at the far end. They are both locked.

Enter the dining room.
Destroy the four robots in the dining room. Pick up a laser boost.
The fire place is connected to the fire place in the adjoining room.
There are two robots inside it.

In a niche to the right at the end of the dining room is a shootable trigger.
This unlocks the door to the veranda.

An unlocked door to the left at the end of the dining room leads to the living room.
Enter the living room.
Destroy the three robots in the living room, one of them leaves a quad laser.
Pick up a laser boost. You now have quad laser level 4.

To the right of the fire place in the living room is a shootable trigger.
This unlocks the door in the ceiling at the far end of the hall.

Go back to the hall through the living room door.
This door remains locked on the hall side.

Enter the veranda.
Destroy the two robots in the veranda, one of them leaves a spread fire cannon.

In the veranda there is a shootable trigger below the door.
This unlocks the door to the study.

Reenter the hall. Enter the kitchen.
Destroy the two robots in the kitchen, one of them leaves a vulcan cannon.

Notice the red key inside the kitchen's fire place, it's unreachable from here.
Two robots may appear there.
To the right is an unlocked door to an energy center. Recharge.
The door at the other end of the energy center is locked.

Reenter the hall, then enter the study.
This room is in darkness. Destroy the two cloaked robots in the study.

The door to the study remains locked on the inside.
The study fire place is in connection with the kitchen fire place. Robots may appear there.

There are three cabinets in the study.
The two to the right are locked, the one to the left is unlocked, it holds powerups.

To the right of the unlocked cabinet is a secret door in the wall.
Behind it is the other door to the energy center, it is unlocked from this side.
It remains locked from inside the energy center.

Go through the energy center and the kitchen and reenter the hall.

Go through the now unlocked door in the ceiling.
Destroy the two robots in the upstairs corridor. One of them leaves a plasma cannon.

The door you came through remains locked on the upper side.
The other door down to the hall (at the other end)
is unlocked from this side but remains locked from below.
Each time you go down through this door a robot maker in the hall is activated.

(None of the robot makers in this game are distinguishable visually beforehand.)

The corridor you have entered has three more doors.
Halfway through the corridor there are niches on each side with doors leading to bedrooms.
The one to the left (from where you entered) is locked.
This bedroom is above the living room and the dining room.
The one to the right is unlocked. This bedroom is above the study.
At the far end (from where you entered)
is a niche to the right with an unlocked door leading to a bathroom.
(The bathroom is above the kitchen.)

Both the unlocked bedroom and the bathroom have doors in the ceilings leading to the loft.
Both of these doors are locked.

Enter the unlocked bedroom.
Destroy the two robots in this bedroom.
Pick up a laser super boost.

Inside this room's fire place (inner left corner) is a shootable trigger
(a little above the upper grating).
This opens the grating at the far end of the fire place in the dining room downstairs.

The bedroom fire place is connected with the kitchen and study fire places,
but no robot will appear there.

On the wall with the door and to the left of the lamp is a secret door.
Behind it is a shootable trigger. This unlocks the door to the loft in the bathroom.

Go back to the corridor and enter the bathroom. Destroy the robot in the bathroom.

Enter the loft.
Destroy the two robots in the first room then the robot outside the window.

The door at the other end requires the yellow key.
It's a grate door, robots from within will try to hit you.

Near where you entered the loft is a grate with a mega missile and another grate door behind it.
This grate door (behind the first grate) is locked.

Notice a blue and purple chest nearby, it is seemingly unopenable.

By the left side wall (from where you entered) is a locked cabinet.

Locate a red chest on the other wall to the left of the window.
Open it and take four homing missiles.
Open the bottom of the chest and find a mega missile. Go down for it.

When you get up again the previously locked cabinet has been opened,
four robots have come out of it.
Destroy them.
It is a shootable trigger inside the cabinet.
It unlocks the leftmost of the two locked cabinets in the study downstairs.
The cabinet also holds a laser super boost. Pick it up. You now have quad laser level 6.

Go down to the bathroom again.
When you do that a robot maker in the dining room downstairs is activated.

Go down to the hall, beware the robots from the hall robot maker.

Clean the dining room of the robots from this room's robot maker (or do that later).

Enter the study.
Open the now unlocked cabinet (the leftmost on the right side).
Two cloaked robots come out of it. Destroy them.
There is a shootable trigger inside this cabinet, it opens a part of the floor close by.
This opening leads down to the basement.

Enter the basement. Destroy the two robots in the first room.
They may come at you while you are still in the study.

In the basement there is an unlocked door ahead to the left.
A less noticeable door is right opposite it, this door is locked.

Open the unlocked door, it remains open. Fight the three robots within.
They may all three be right inside, or one or two may hide further into the basement.
One of them leaves a fusion cannon.

When you go through the now open door, the locked door behind you will open.
Two more robots (one is cloaked) will come from it. Otherwise you find powerups behind it.

Find your way further into the basement until you get to a door that requires the blue key.

Shoot the blue glimmering sign above this door.
This is a trigger that unlocks the ceiling door in the bedroom.

Find another shootable trigger nearby.
This unlocks the last cabinet in the study.

Go back to the study and open the last cabinet.
Find the yellow key in this cabinet (plus some vulcan ammo).

Go to the bedroom upstairs and open the door in the ceiling.
You see the blue key above you.
It's inside the blue and purple chest in the loft, this chest has an open bottom.

When you go through the ceiling door above you the top of the chest will open,
giving access to the loft through it.
When you go through the now opened top of the chest
the other door to the loft will be locked from above.
You will then later have to go down through the blue and purple chest from above,
a robot maker in the bedroom you are now in will then be activated.

You may therefor first want to go up to the loft (for the yellow access)
through the bathroom (to avoid having this door locked from above at this state).
But remember, each time you go down that way,
the robot maker in the dining room is activated and you need later to enter that room.

You may also just pick up the blue key without entering the loft.
This way you will not activate the bedroom robot maker at this state
(but you will have to do it later).

When you go down through the bedroom ceiling door, a robot maker in the basement is activated.

Whichever way you choose, you will have to enter the loft for the yellow access.

Open the yellow key door in the loft.
Destroy the two cloaked robots within plus an omega guppy dropping smart mines.
This omega guppy leaves you two sets of smart mines.
That's why you needed the yellow key. You need the smart mines for a later trick.

If you destroy the omega guppy outside the yellow key door, you don't really need to enter it.
But you should do it since it holds a lot of other powerups
including an 'Extra life' and an 'Energy to shield converter'.
However when you come back from within the yellow key door,
a robot maker above the blue and purple chest is activated.
(This happens whether you have opened that chest or not.)

When you have taken the blue key, reenter the basement for the blue access.
Don't forget that a robot maker in the basement has now been activated.

Open the blue key door in the basement.
Behind it is an 'Extra life' powerup, behind that is a grate, behind that is a water fall,
and behind that is a robot. Destroy it.
The grate makes it impossible to move further into this area (at this state).

Right within the blue key door is a shootable trigger, right above the door.
This opens the grate in the loft (the one with a mega missile and a locked door behind it).

Before you leave this place for now,
you may discover that there is a locked door straight ahead behind the water fall.
And you may discover that there is also an unlocked door on the right side cave wall
(also behind the water fall).

Go up to the bedroom again, and move over to the fire place in the corner.

Look as far up into the chimney as you can, you will notice the locked door in the loft.
It is unlocked from within the chimney, you can open it from this angle.
But it will not stay open, and once it is closed again it is still locked from the loft side.

Shoot this door open (preferably with a flair) and rush through the door in the ceiling,
through the blue and purple chest, and through the door while it is still open
(picking up the mega missile on your way).

You may have to try this a few times before you succeed.
Remember that the robot maker in the bedroom is activated
each time you go down the blue and purple chest.

Once inside the chimney, find your way down to the kitchen fire place for the red key,
destroying the robots you encounter including an omega guppy that drops proximity bombs.
Be particularly aware these bombs.
Find your way also to the study fire place for some extra missiles.

Go down to the dining room.
Robots from this room's robot maker will be there if you have not destroyed them already.

Enter the fire place from the far end.
Beware the fire!
Move up the chimney.

You will now find yourself in a fire place in the hitherto unreachable second bedroom upstairs.

A robot outside the bedroom window may discover you and fire flash missiles in your direction.
You may get to destroy this robot from where you are now, but it may cost you a lot of shield.
And remember, you are to go down through the fire again!

Behind a grate you see an 'Extra life' powerup,
behind another one you see the door a little way off.
You may open that door from here but it will not remain open long enough
for you to get to the other side in time.

Through a third grate you look into a little compartment with red arrows on the wall.
On a wall immediately to the right inside this compartment (a wall you can not see),
is a smashable image. Destroying this image will unlock the door to this bedroom.

Position a smart mine next to the grate.
Move as far up into the chimney as possible.
Use missiles (preferably concussion missiles, you found four of them here)
to get the smart mine into the compartment and to the right
(without triggering it off).

When you have got the smart mine sufficiently far to the right, trigger it off.
It will not home in on the image, but it will most certainly hit it.
But it is still possible that you may have to try this more than once.

Go down through the dining room again and up to the upstairs corridor.

Enter the second bedroom.
As soon as you do this a robot maker inside this room is activated.
Fight these robots, and the one outside the window (if you have not already destroyed that one).

Pick up the 'Extra life' powerup.

The red curtain behind the bed is the red access.
If you enter this room without the red key,
you will have to enter it again, and activate the robot maker again.

Behind the red access is the entrance to a secret level.

(If you enter the second bedroom low on shield,
you may try to rush into the secret level without fighting the robots.
You will then possibly get killed in the secret level and start on a new life
right by the entrance to the secret level, but 'behind the curtain'
so that you are unnoticed by the robots in the bedroom.
But remember that dying close to a secret exit or a secret level's exit,
some of your weapons and missiles may glide into the exit cube,
making it impossible to reach them again.
And besides, you will have to fight the robots in the bedroom
when you eventually come back from the secret level,
if you have not destroyed them before.)

Enter the secret level.
An omega will immediately charge you (and probably kick you back to the ordinary level).

Well, enter the secret level again.
Pick up an 'Extra life' powerup.

You are closed in by grates from three sides.
Behind the left and right grates are lava falls.
Behind the grate ahead lava is flowing upwards from a volcano below.

A robot attacks you from behind the lava ahead. Destroy it.
It leaves a gauss cannon. You get to pick that one up later.

Above you is a door in the ceiling, behind it is one guided missile. Pick it up.

Now you should go back to the ordinary level and save.
It is not possible to save (nor load) in a secret level.

Back in the secret level again.
Behind the lava ahead is a locked door.
The entrances to the left and right are connected by a looping corridor.

If you send the guided missile all through this corridor,
you risk hitting yourself in the back.

At the far and upper part of this corridor two lava falls are found right beside each other.
Whether you choose the left or right path,
between these two lava falls you must turn the guided missile inwards,
steer it through a grate, past an earth shaker missile
and down to the locked door found behind the lava right ahead from the entrance.
The guided missile will open this door from behind (the door is not locked from that side).

Turn that way and fire into the lava.
A shootable trigger behind the door opens the grates to the left and right.
But you must get to shoot this trigger while the door is still open.

Now you know why I advised you to save.
You will not succeed in this operation at the first try!
(Unless you are VERY good with guided missiles.)

Follow the left or right path.
When you get to the two upper lava falls, a door in the ceiling between them has been opened.
Four robots come at you from it. Destroy them. The door will remain open.

An 'Extra life' powerup is found right above it.

Move up through this door, and find yourself surrounded by four force fields.

A smashable image on the wall at the far end of the room you have entered
will deactivate the force fields.
But there is a big robot in front of it. Destroy it.

The room you now are in has two more smashable images and two locked doors.

Destroying the image in the niche to the right will unlock a door in the ceiling
(right by the now deactivated force fields).
Behind it you find an afterburner.

Destroying the image in the niche to the left will open the door in the wall.
This door will remain open.

There are three robots in the next room, two of them are cloaked. Destroy them.
The robot which is not cloaked will leave an omega cannon.

There are two unlocked cabinets in this room that hold powerups.
The left one also includes a shootable trigger.
Shooting this will make the door behind the lava near the entrance unlocked also from the lava side.
Later you will go through there to get the earth shaker missile.

There is a big fire place in the middle of the room you are now in,
it is fueled by the volcano below!
The floor in this fire place is a blastable grate.
Blast it now so you don't have to do it later
when you are moving down the chimney with lava all around you.

In one of the corners of this room there is an unlocked door in the ceiling. Go through it.

There are three robots in the section you now enter.
Destroy first a cloaked one in the narrow corridor you get up into.
There is a cloaked robot in the central room too.
The third robot is in a narrow corridor on the opposite side, (this robot is not cloaked).

After cleaning each room in this secret level,
it could be a good idea to go down to the ordinary level and save,
though you have to go through a couple of lava falls on your way down and up again.

In the middle of the central room lava is streaming upwards from the volcano,
through the chimney. The opening in the floor is blocked by a grate.

Midway through each of the narrow corridors there are small rooms.
One includes a smashable image which is a shootable trigger, and two shield boosts.
This trigger removes the grate in the floor within the lava stream.
The other little room is an energy center.

Go down the chimney. You find the gauss cannon from a robot you destroyed earlier.

You have blasted the grate in the fire place, further below is a grate door,
and below that is the volcano.

In the volcano there are eight robots.
Four of them are omegas, one is a Red Fatty jr.

Red Fatty jr. and three red robots may get to shoot at you through the grate door,
any of the eight may come at you when you open it.
Especially the omegas are dangerous in this lava surrounded area,
and they don't leave any shield boosts.

Fight them as they come,
but try to get as quickly as possible down below the door and through the streaming lava.
You are now in the volcano. It includes lots of powerups but also some mines.
Rush first through the powerups avoiding the enemies, use the afterburner,
watch out for the mines. Then fight the robots.

Red Fatty jr. will leave a phoenix cannon.
You need it to get into the last section of the ordinary level.

On your way up from the volcano locate the now unlocked door behind the lava,
leading to the earth shaker missile.

Find your way back to the ordinary level.
You can take your time, none of the robots you destroyed were an end level robot.
(You can not destroy this secret level).

When you are back in the ordinary level, move down to the basement.
Be aware that some of the robots from the basement robot maker may still be there.

Go through the blue key door in the basement.

Shoot a flair to open the door on the right side cave wall behind the water fall.
Shoot with your phoenix cannon through the door while it is open.
In this way you sooner or later will hit a shootable trigger on a wall behind that door.
The grate in front of you will then be opened.

The moment you pass where the grate was,
the door right ahead behind the water fall will become unlocked.

Stop by the little room to the right and pick up some powerups,
you will notice the smashed trigger on the right side wall inside the little room.

The section you now are about to enter consists of two big caves
which are connected by one small lower corridor,
and one bigger and longer, upper corridor,
starting immediately to the left right inside the first cave.
A part of the big corridor is an energy center.
Beyond the second cave and behind a water fall is an adjoining area.
You may enter this at an upper or lower niveau.

The whole section is heavily infested with robots,
one will leave a helix cannon, giving you a complete arsenal.

Now enter the first cave.
One method is to try to take out all the robots that are appearing in the first cave immediately,
another is to rush into the upper corridor to the left right away.

Seven omega guppies are found in this section. Six of them drop proximity bombs.
Two red ones leave proximity bombs, two purple ones leave cloaking devices,
a blue one leaves an 'Invulnerability' powerup and a green one leaves an 'Extra life' powerup.
The seventh, yellowish brown, omega guppy drops smart mines and leaves smart mines.

Try to destroy the omega guppies as soon as you notice them.

In the second cave is the Limefrost Spiral boss (the Ice boss) waiting.
It is this time equipped with earth shaker missiles in addition to white homing balls
(and not mega flash missiles).

Near the energy center there is a niche between the corridor and the second cave.
It is blocked on both sides with grates.
This niche holds a second earth shaker missile (and a robot).

More missiles and other powerups are found in several places,
including a mega missile found in the second cave.

In the wall at the far end of the area beyond the second cave,
midway between the upper and lower niveaus (right below the 'Z' shaped lights),
there is a small cavity. In this cavity there is an almost unnoticable,
thin opening at the upper end.
Moving into this cavity you will notice a shootable trigger within that opening.
This opens the cave side grate blocking the before mentioned earth shaker missile.

In your fight with the boss robot and all the other robots,
use the different powerups wisely.

The boss finally destroyed,
make it back to the house entrance, through the basement, the study, the kitchen and the hall.
From outside the house (from beyond the exit) a last robot, a boarshead, is coming at you.
Destroy this last robot.
